SUMMER CAMPS ARE OVER, BUUUUUT…

It's that time again! I'll be turning 49 on August 27th and am doing another birthday run to raise money for one of my favorite San Francisco organizations, City of Dreams

This year my goal is to run 45 miles on Wednesday, August 27th! I’m asking folks to pledge for every mile I run (e.g. $.50 per mile = $20.50, $1 per mile = $45, $2 per mile = $90, etc.).

If you would like to help out, please click THIS LINK to enter your pledge. This is simply a form to enter your intended donation. I will also send this group a link to follow my progress on the day of the run!

Once I complete the run on Wednesday, August 27th, pledgers will be emailed with the final total mileage along with the City of Dreams donation link.

City of Dreams' mission is to help youth in the Bayview neighborhood overcome the challenges presented by systemic injustices through mentorship, health & wellness programs, life skills courses, and preparation for social, academic, and professional environments. Having had the privilege of working with them in the shop the past few years, I have seen firsthand the impact their program has on these amazing kids.

Thank you so much in advance for the birthday gift and support!

WHAT SETS US APART?

In the past months our email list has exponentially grown. It occurred to me that all these prospective attendees may not know what to expect or may not know what makes The Butterfly Joint so special. If you or your child are new to The Butterfly Joint community and have yet to attend a camp, I would like to formally welcome you!

Firstly, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Danny Montoya  and I am a credentialed early-childhood educator with more than a decade of experience in the classroom (7 years as a first grade teacher and 5 years in K). I am a life-long educator who entered the profession at the ripe age of 20 and my yearning to focus on early childhood education was a direct result of my personal experiences as a student.

My goals as a teacher are centered around socialization, social justice, problem-solving, and creating a positive learning environment which models and teaches personal responsibility, confidence, independence, resiliency, antiracism and advocacy to our students. The most important piece of ensuring this happens is our focus on reinforcing manners and teaching the concept of empathy and "being polite". I would hope at this point, The Butterfly Joint is known as much for this as it is for teaching woodworking to kids!

Another aspect that sets us apart is that this is an owner-operated business. That means, when you call, you speak with me. When you email, it is me who responds. When your child attends a class or camp, it is me instructing them! In my opinion, this creates a consistency and quality in our offerings that many other competitors lack.

I can assure you, The Butterfly Joint is an experience unlike any other. I take great pride in the fact that we are not simply here to babysit -- we are here to educate. I take child development extremely seriously and my greatest hope is that it is apparent in the work we do here. Ultimately, we are a community and are charged with raising one another's children along with our own. And with all that said, I am happy to welcome you and your family to The Butterfly Joint community!
